WHAT IS CLASSICAL
HOMEOPATHY?

By Peggy Elliott, HMA

Homeopathy is the fastest growing form of alternative medicine in the world today.

Homeopathy is a system of medicine (plants, minerals and other natural substances) which gently assists the body in its task of self-healing. It regards the productions of symptoms as part of this effort by the body to heal itself.

A VISIT TO A
HOMEOPATHIC PRACTITIONER

Upon an initial visit to a homeopathic practitioner, everything that is going on in a person's life is looked at, not just a specific symptom. For instance, if a person is complaining of severe headaches there may be underlying problems of depression, insecurities, low energy or the beginnings of a chronic disease. All these problems stem from the same root cause and by healing the whole body, the problems fade away.

One sign of an educated and experienced homeopathic practitioner is that the initial visit can take anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours depending on the degree of symptoms.

It is important to know how the patient interacts with his or her environment and with other people, because health is not just the absence of illness. It is a state of positive well-being and vitality, in which our interface with the world outside us is just as important as what goes on inside.

Homeopathy is not about killing germs or treating symptoms; it is about restoring health. It aims to heal the whole person and therefore, in the case-taking, all aspects of the patient are addressed.

Finding a well trained classical homeopath can be challenging. There are very few in Northern Arizona. Just because a practitioner lists homeopathy as one of the many forms of alternative medicine, that does not mean they are Classical Practioners. A well-trained classical homeopath with many years of training in homeopathic medicine exclusively is someone who is a true Classical Homeopath.

A BIT OF HISTORY

"You cannot divorce Medicine and Theology. Man exists all the way down, from his innermost Spiritual to his outermost Natural," wrote James Tyler Kent.

Kent and two other great allopathic physicians of our time, Samuel Hahnemann and Constantine Hering, all shared a commonplace in the art of healing. They were influenced by developing and practicing homeopathic medicine. Although skeptical at first of the healing properties of plants, minerals and other natural substances, Hahnemann, Hering and Kent through experimentation proved true healing of the body had mental, emotional and physical elements.

When cholera swept through Europe in 1831, Hahnemann's widespread usage of homeopathy had a 96 percent cure rate compared to 41 percent allopathic alone. Their many patients were experiencing remarkable cures which firmly proved their theories of the practice of homeopathy -- and rendered them outcasts among the powerful apothecaries of their time.

Ridicule and skepticism of such proven antidotes of disease exist even today, although many medical doctors now practice homeopathy in conjunction with western medicine.

Classical Homeopathy is system of medicine that is truely holistic. If one organ of the body does not function properly, other organs will be affected.

Therefore, homeopaths are capable of treating a wide range of symptoms and multiple problems in the whole body
